I started taking photographs when I was 12, after my grandfather gave me a Kodak Instamatic for Christmas. That camera was my favorite toy, but my career plan back then was to become a fireman, and eventually an astronaut.
It was not until I was in art college that I seriously considered becoming a professional photographer. This inclination was due to a severe infatuation with a very young female photographer, whose exhibited work I found very impressive, particularly her self-portrait. Of course, nothing ever happened between me and that talented girl, but it began a lifelong obsession with photography, and a commitment to the Nikon system, for better or worse.
Years later, I found myself blowing a substantial chunk of my savings on a backpacking trip around Thailand. After which, I would continuously find myself blowing a substantial chunk of my savings on a backpacking trip somewhere else. It was during one of these trips when I experienced my first shot of espresso. What started as another mindless process of ingesting stimulants was transformed into a spiritual awakening. Drinking coffee became a sacred ritual that draws me back to my center and substantially increased my beverage expenditure.
It was at this point that I realized the most important things in my life: photography, travel and a good cup of coffee.
This is not a travel blog , nor is it about photography. For those interested in viewing my work, you can go to my professional website: http://www.elacson.com , or check my stream on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/straylite . I will also post links to other blogs about travel and photography, written by people far more qualified than me. What you will find here are just notes from someone who travel often, take pictures and drinks a lot of coffee.
