Disputed Territory

Back in Manila after a quick visit to TaƱon Strait, a marine sanctuary located between the islands of Cebu and Negros. Among the major fishing grounds in the region, this area is also a migration route for whale sharks and home for several species of dolphins. It was also discovered that around one billion barrels of oil can be extracted under its seabed. The government has been awarding contracts to survey and drill in the area despite its status as Protected Seascape.

Is there anything that can be done? A petition? Do any NGO such as WWF take action against the project? Considering what is at stake I don't think the government will consider environmental impact above financial interest.

yes, WWF is taking action since part of the protection program. Yeah, in an ideal world governments should consider the environmental impact, but it's not often the case.
