Kalbaryo

During the last Holy Week, while the most of the city went off to Boracay or Baguio, I stayed in Manila for a century-old lenten tradition at Barangay Poblacion, a residential area close to the skyscrapers and malls of the Makati. Along street corners, residents display life-sized dioramas, called Kalbaryos, that depict the Passion of Jesus Christ in Calvary. Devotees walked to each Kalbaryo, to say a prayer and meditate on the sufferings and death Christ. These days, I see more people who go around just to take pictures. A procession is held on Good Friday and the images are carried around the streets of the neighborhood.
